Star style: Louise Linton

She's caused controversy with her Instagram posts, but according to our Fashion Correspondent, the wife of Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin has some serious style!

Louise Linton

It all started with an Instagram post. Just like Helen of Troy was said to have launched a thousand ships, so a fated Instagram post would launch Louise Linton into the fashion spotlight.

She has had a career as a Hollywood actor, having starred in films alongside big names such as Robert Englund, Matthew Broderick, Christopher Walken and Annette Bening. Back home in the UK she’s even starred in a retelling of the love story between Prince William and Kate Middleton.

But it’s in her personal capacity as a prominent US politician’s wife that catapulted Louise Linton into the public eye recently.

As the wife of Steve Mnuchin, US Secretary of the Treasury, Linton already had the eyes of the American press focused on her spending habits. So when she took to Instagram and hashtagged every fashion label she wore on a flight with her husband, there was an understandable uproar from the tax-paying public. A vicious back and forth ensued, with many comparing the actress’ shopping pursuits to that of beheaded French queen, Marie Antoinette.

Whatever your stance on her lifestyle may be, there is one thing we can all agree on: the woman has got style.

In the interests of freedom of speech… and style, we highlight some of Louise Linton’s classiest, most stylish looks (hashtags not included):

Call the Red Berets

Bonnie and Clyde, is that you? Linton looks every bit the glamorous 1930s style star in this ensemble of soft layered neutrals. The true highlight of her look is a vintage scarlet red beret, the perfect accessory to show off a pair of high-waisted cream pants, a deep V-necked silk blouse and a soft beige trench coat. Sublime!

Louise Linton’s Star Power

Everyday is a photo call, especially when you’re an actress. Here Linton poses with co-star Lily Collins on the set of their 2016 film Rules Don’t Apply. Channeling old-Hollywood style icons Marilyn Monroe and Jackie Kennedy, the duo is a sight to behold. Set during the 1950s, the overall effect is all-out glamour, decadence and pure sophistication.

Red Carpet Royalty

Say cheese! Ah, the life of an actress. Linton dazzled on the red carpet at the 2012 Scottish Fashion Awards. Her all-white ensemble by designer Basil Soda was a style triumph, set off by fine metallic gold accents. She kept things understated and elegant with a high ponytail and minimal, barefaced makeup.

Black Tie Glamour

When in doubt, you will never go wrong with a striking little black dress for evening glamour. And Louise Linton’s black lace number is one that ticks all the right style boxes. Svelte, opulent and with just enough drama at the back, she is the picture of elegance alongside her husband Steve Mnuchin. Attending the 2017 Governor’s Ball at the White House, his suit of rich black is dark and brooding against the fine femininity of her Ines Di Santo black lace gown.

Siren Call

Never underestimate the power of a bold red lip to really make statement. Proud Scot Louise regularly attends the annual Scottish Fashion Awards in her native homeland. At the event’s 2013 edition, she chose a look that was all about striking blonde ambition. Going full femme fatale, her makeup was reminiscent of the quintessential Bond girl: side swept blonde hair, dark smoky eyes and full red lips. Her dress meanwhile was dripping in bling – fine crystal diamantés with a touch of red shining through underneath. Simply beautiful!
