Below the Fold: Who’s Profiting off of Immigration Detention?

This week’s Below the Fold takes a behind-the-scenes look at immigration detention.

As we enter the 27th day of the government shutdown, there are a lot of things we could talk about.

Like: Who should cave first in order to get the government back open.

Or… The immigrants who died ICE custody. Or… Immigrant children being put up for adoption without their parents’ consent.

Or… The fact that illegal border crossings are the lowest they have been since the early 2000s, but that asylum seekers are up.

Or… That being in the U.S. illegally is actually a civil violation, not a crime, and thus immigration detention is technically a civil matter, not a criminal process.

But I don’t want to talk about any of that.

I want to talk about who is profiting off of this mess.

Check out this week’s episode of Below the Fold to learn more about how private prisons and the politicians they lobbied seem to be the only ones “winning” during this humanitarian crisis.
