From news anchor to Republican nominee for congress, could Maria Elvira Salazar be the first member of Congress to have five Emmy awards on her mantlepiece?

Delve a little deeper into Salazar’s story and you will find a career glittered with one outstanding achievement after the next. The Cuban-American has degrees from both the University of Miami and Harvard. As a journalist, she has interviewed everyone from Fidel Castro to Pablo Escobar’s right-hand man, the drug trafficker known as “Popeye.”

Most recently, she got the attention of Hollywood when she publicly called out actor Jim Carrey for his rally to embrace socialism. Salazar herself is the daughter of Cuban refugees who fled the country to escape the communist political regime under the rule of Fidel Castro.

It is safe to say that Salazar is not afraid of a fight. Come November this year, she will go head to head with Democrat candidate and former Clinton official Donna Shalala for a seat in Congress in Florida’s district 27. How will she fare? As we eagerly wait, we turn our focus to her style profile over the course of her career. Elegant, poised and always professional, Salazar is a style force like few others.

In August, Salazar won the GOP primary in Florida’s 27th congressional district. Outgoing incumbent Ileana Ros-Lehtinen has wholeheartedly endorsed her as her successor. Salazar’s look for the event mirrored her dazzling personality perfectly – a fitted jersey-knit sweater made up of varying shades of blue.

It takes a true pro to make basic blue jeans look chic. For Maria Salazar, it’s all in a day’s work. Here the stylish politician is a vision in a fitted sweater of bright canary yellow paired with cobalt blue jeans. She spent the day walking through her constituency of District 27 in Miami, getting to know her neighbors one on one. The light dusting of metallic jewelry adds just the perfect touch of glamour to the everyday look.

Opposites attract!

Salazar shows us just how effortlessly styles and aesthetics can merge side by side. She is seen here posing with famed Cuban graffiti artist El Sexto who uses his art as a form of protest against the political regime. The human rights activist has even been arrested and detained on several occasions for his anti-government work. For this occasion, Salazar contrasts the artist’s creative wear with an outfit that is sleek, refined and polished. She is stunning in a white high-waisted pencil skirt and a feminine draped blouse in chic navy blue. A meeting of impeccable style, we’d say!

Anchored in elegance

Maria Elvira Salazar was instrumental in bringing CNN to a Spanish-speaking audience, in association with the Telemundo channel. In so doing, she became the first Spanish correspondent in CNN’s history, even interviewing Fidel Castro face to face in Cuba in 1995. The stylish anchor can be seen here on the news program Mega Noticiero looking poised to perfection in a black pencil skirt, a beige blouse and elegant stiletto heels.

It’s smiles all around as Salazar embraces the members of her district in Little Havana. The Republican candidate is a familiar face in the area, particularly among the elderly whose rights and dignity she places at the top of her itinerary. Her outfit is covered in stripes of baby pink and red against a backdrop of deep jet black. Elegance has never looked this effortless!
