Believe it or not, Justin Trudeau is not the Canada’s only young, fashionable politician-superstar. Current New Brunswick premier Brian Gallant is making waves and knows how to wear a suit. After a largely successful first term, New Brunswickers get their chance to return Gallant’s Liberal Party for another four years when they head to the polls on September 24th.

At just 36, Gallant is the youngest Premier ever to hold office in Canada. During the 2014 New Brunswick campaign, his Liberals ran on a platform that included a $900 million infrastructure package which to create 1,700 jobs over six years – (which were much needed in a province suffering from the worst rate of unemployment in the country). Once elected he pushed through a series of progressive measures, including raising income tax on higher earners, removing tax breaks on business property, and raising the province’s minimum wage from $10 to $11 per hour.

So far the job creation plans have been successful. Most recently, he announced that through various strategic investments with influential companies, over 600 jobs were created for New Brunswick residents in 2017.

Another area he is particularly passionate about is preserving the environment. Since taking office he has enacted a moratorium on fracking. This not only protects the integrity of the earth, but also stops fracked wastewater from ending up in the region’s municipal water supply.

Oh, and did we mention he speaks French too? New Brunswick is Canada’s only officially bilingual province. Roughly a third of New Brunswickers self-identify as francophone, and a further third claim to be bi-lingual. The politics of language is naturally an important feature in the current election, and here Gallant holds an advantage. Blaine Higgs, from the rival Progressive Conservative Party, only speaks English.

But the current premier’s political career is not the only thing that has our attention. Here are some of our favorite Brian Gallant style moments!

As the Premier of New Brunswick, Gallant can often be found meeting with the government’s most senior officials. Topping that list? It has to be Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, seen here alongside Gallant in a sleek dark charcoal suit. Gallant meanwhile goes for something a tad brighter in a navy blue suit and dark mahogany tie. The Liberal Party leaders met to discuss ways to keep the senior demographic fit and active. New Brunswick is, after all, home to the largest percentage of senior citizens in Canada.

In May, some parts of New Brunswick experienced record high water levels. To prepare for the inevitable flooding to come, Gallant assisted officials in taking the necessary precautions. His attire for the job? Fine and functional as always, in a pair of dark blue jeans, a collared button-down shirt and a burgundy woolen sweater.

Suited just right

There’s just a special something about a man in a suit, isn’t there? Gallant knows the stylish effect that a tailored ensemble creates, as he is seen here in a chic two-piece of dark blue paired with brown leather shoes. The Premier was addressing the crowd at this year’s State of the Province event.

All work and no play? Not for this Premier. Gallant combines his love of four-legged creatures with a good cause – the safety and protection of animals. Seen here in casual blue jeans and a striped shirt, he shines the spotlight on new legislation that protects the rights of all animals in New Brunswick.

In the name of pride

The stylish politician shows that he not only talks the talk, but walks the walk too. Gallant joined in by celebrating the Saint John Pride Parade in honor of New Brunswick’s LGBTQ+ community. And his outfit was suitably colorful and bright to boot, made up of dark blue denim jeans, a button-down shirt and an eye-catching red jacket.
